EPIC Church Fail!

I've recently been reading William Kirkpatrick's Christianity, Islam, and Atheism:  The Struggle for the Soul of the West.  When he cited this article:

Why European Women Are Turning to Islam

I had to find and read it, because, although I can easily see why young MEN would be attracted to Islam (it is essentially an angry young man's wet dream, after all), it was quite beyond me why a woman, certainly any woman brought up in Western culture, would be attracted to an ideological system that so clearly advocates the use and abuse of women ("honor killings," genital mutilation, marriage at any age and consummation at age 9, among the many examples).

Well, I got my answer:

'she liked the way "Islam demands a closeness to God. Islam is simpler, more rigorous, and it's easier because it is explicit. I was looking for a framework; man needs rules and behavior to follow. Christianity did not give me the same reference points." '

What a colossal FAILURE the Church has been to this woman.  How could she NOT find such "reference points" in Christianity?  How is that possible?  Massive failure on the part of the Church to act on the great commission.  Huge, destructive, life-losing, soul-losing failure.

But wait, there's more:

'Those reasons reflect many female converts' thinking, say experts who have studied the phenomenon. "A lot of women are reacting to the moral uncertainties of Western society," says Dr. Jawad. "They like the sense of belonging and caring and sharing that Islam offers." '

Again, how is the Christian church managing to look LESS affording of a "sense of belonging and caring and sharing" than Islam?  It takes one's breath quite away.  The "moral uncertainties of Western society"--a society that was absolutely founded upon Christian principles--are entirely on our (Christian's) heads.  If there is uncertainty, it is because we have failed to communicate the certain truths of Christianity; the truth, goodness, and beauty inherent in Christianity because inherent in Christ Himself.

And finally:

'Others are attracted by "a certain idea of womanhood and manhood that Islam offers," suggests Karin van Nieuwkerk, who has studied Dutch women converts. "There is more space for family and motherhood in Islam, and women are not sex objects." '

The primacy of family and motherhood in the Christian life is absolutely as clear as living water in the Catholic church's teachings.  St. John Paul II has given us a treasure trove of teachings on the meaning of sex and precisely WHY not only women, but men, are not and should never be treated as objects of any kind.  HOW can it be that the culture now is so completely upside down that it sees the subjugation of women in Islam as an attractive alternative to our culture's objectification, but labels Catholic teachings, that call us to rise to the level of recognizing our own bodies as revelations of the mind of God, "backward" and "oppressive?"

I am astonished.  And also ashamed.  Ashamed that we have done so horribly poorly in sharing the gospel; that we have failed so horribly badly.  This is TRULY an "epic fail."  Somebody tell me how to begin to change this.  We MUST do so; we have been COMMANDED to by the Word of God Himself:

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
--Matthew 28:19-20

Where should we start?
